Bursa doctorala in elearning

O bursa de doctorat in domeniul elearning (PhD fellowship in statistics and web-assisted education), in Islanda.

PhD fellowship in statistics – web-assisted education

A fellowship is available for a PhD study within the Statistics Centre, collaborating with the School of Education. The use of web-assisted education will be evaluated in terms of in-class results using a variety of different modelling approaches and experiments. Student groups will be subjected to different quiz-allocation schemes designed to evaluate effects of reminders on memory, test weights to earlier incorrect responses and evaluate other generic question-allocation methods.

The project is a part of the "tutor-web" cooperative R&D-project between 30 university faculty and scientists in 19 countries which includes developing a completely open web-based university, initially towards degrees in mathematics and statistics. The present PhD project will generate a test-bed for evaluating how on-line quiz material can be utilized for grading, typically involving nonlinear random-effects models for evaluation of results. Possibilities for using open web-based systems in low-income regions will also be investigated, including their use as entrance requirements in different countries or substitutes for unavailable courses.

The successful candidate is expected to start no later than September 1, 2009. Applicants should hold an MSc degree with considerable statistical content.

The deadline for applications is April 15, 2009.
